Learn to enjoy life right now!

Reveal true contentment to your family by being satisfied with what you already have.

The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, but the belly of the wicked suffers want. Proverbs 13:25 (ESV)

The Secret to True Contentment

A rich entrepreneur was disturbed to find a fisherman sitting idly by his boat at the lake. “Why aren’t you out on the water fishing?” he asked. The man looked over and replied that he had already caught enough fish for today. “Why don’t you catch more than you need?” the entrepreneur asked. The man by the boat shrugged. “What would I do with them?”

The entrepreneur couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “You could earn more money and buy a better boat to go further out onto the water and catch more fish. Then you’d make even more money, get a fleet of boats, and become rich like me.” The fisherman thought about it. “Then what would I do?” The entrepreneur replied, “You could sit down and enjoy life.”

The man by the boat smiled and shook his head. “What do you think I am doing now?”

True contentment is found, not in having everything you want, but in not wanting to have everything. Yet so many adults haven’t fully learned this secret. Even worse, they’re passing on their discontented materialism by overindulging their children in things that are expensive and truly not needed. Reveal true contentment to your family by being satisfied with—and thanking God for—what you already have.

Today’s ONE THING

Rather than buying your child another toy or game, spend more time with them instead. Give them the gift of yourself.
