What does it mean to live an unquenchable faith that drives darkness away? Author and speaker Carol Kent has walked through her share of darkness, and talks about keeping the fire of faith strong in our lives.
“How do we tend the fire of our faith once we come to faith in Jesus? As I started to look at Scripture I got so excited… I know we serve the God of the flame. When the fire of adversity meets the flame of God, we win.”
Carol shares some ways we can reignite the flame of faith in our hearts.
• From the hands of God’s people. Carol shares that when she walked through challenging seasons, spiritual attacks, and deep hurts, other Christians stepped forward to help. Carol calls them her “stretcher-bearers.” They sent her frozen meals, flowers, and gifts to encourage her to keep looking up to God.
“God uses those people to spark that fire again and to bring us hope.”
• Focus on Zephaniah 3:17. We serve a God Who quiets us with His love and sings over us. Carol found that by focusing on that biblical truth, she experienced a deeper connection with her Father in the midst of the darkness.
• Share your story with those who need encouragement. Remembering what God has done in your own life re-ignites your love for Him.
• Try new things. Sometimes dry faith comes when we fall into a rut. Put on a Christian song and journal as you listen. Watch a movie with strong Christian themes. Engage with someone from another denomination and talk about your traditions.
Carol says, “Remember that our God is the God Who rescues. He is the God Who, even if He chooses to rescue us in a different way than we’re praying, walks with us through the fire. Never forget He loves you that much.”
